Seminar information

Essentials of Textile Technology, Quality and Testing

This seminar aims to give all personnel involved in the sourcing and quality of textile products an understanding of the basics of fabric production and its relation to quality. The course will also explain the reasons for and processes of textile testing.

The course provides an overview of the different types of natural, man-made and synthetic fibres in common use, explain how they are made into yarns and how they are manufactured into woven, weft and warp knitted fabrics.

This seminar should provide attendees with a good understanding of how the different qualities of each fibre and fabric combination play an important part in the end use of the product.

We will also go through the textile testing terminology, explain how tests are performed and how to analyse and interpret the results. The seminar will also provide a basic overview of the legal obligations of those in the supply chain and methods to implement this, including due diligence. The day includes a tour of the softlines laboratory with demonstrations of tests.

Toy Safety in Europe

This seminar will take you through the legal minefield of toy safety. We will explain the requirements of the European Toy Safety Directive, including the chemical requirements. There will be ample opportunity for discussion and questions & answers with our experienced team of toy consultants.

The day will also include a demonstration of toy tests so you can fully appreciate what testing to safety standards really does mean. Attendees are welcome to bring products and samples they wish to discuss during the seminar.

Objectives of the seminar:
Understand your requirements and your responsibilities under the Toy Safety Directive
Be familiar with the processes that you have to go through in order to market a safe and legal toy
See how tests are performed

General Product Safety Directive

Our half-day seminar will help anyone looking after the quality and safety to get a general understanding of the European General Product Safety Directive (GPSD), fitness for purpose and related issues.

You will be taken through the legal processes and the seminar will detail your legal requirements, the “due diligence” defence and the hazard & risk assessment methodology. Additionally, the provisional changes to the GPSD, will be discussed during the session.

Objectives of the seminar:
Be aware of your requirements to market a “safe hardlines product” in the EU
Know how to conduct an effective risk assessment process
Understand how hardlines products are tested
